SUMMARY:
Provide staff support of the Manager for the investigation, documentation and resolution of quality issues and initiatives. Support auditing of processes and products. Evaluate subcontractors quality systems.

Reports directly to the Manager, Quality Assurance Department. Position requires the incumbent to be resourceful, assertive, self-reliant and consistent, in dealing with internal and external customers on a wide range of issues. Considerable latitude in scheduling own activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
• The Quality Assurance Engineer shall be the departmental principal point of contact for matters related to the company’s quality-related processes. This function shall include:
• Acting as an audit team member and conducting audits under supervision of processes, procedures, and products.
• Assisting with subcontractor evaluations.
• Assisting with audits and proposing and preparing updates to Quality Assurance Department Procedures.
• Analyzing processes as necessary and recommending improvements as appropriate for out of control process conditions, sporadic defects and non-conforming products.
• Assisting in the design of Production, Engineering, and Materials, processes, including data collection and appropriate statistical methodology.
• Maintaining an understanding of contractual quality requirements.
• Providing input, as appropriate, to business and production plans.
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• College degree or equivalent in Quality or a related Engineering, plus minimum five (5) years experience in the field.
• Ability to understand ship specifications, drawings, MIL-STD, CFRs, ABS Rules, etc.
• Knowledge of statistical methods and problem solving tools.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Have basic computer word processing skills.
• Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to go aboard ship and climb ladders. Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, in shops construction areas and subcontractor facilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Read J1 letters on the standard Jaeger tests type chart at a distance of 12 inches. Interpersonal abilities for the exercise of tact, diplomacy, and good judgment in dealings with internal and external customers.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Responsible for assistance to production and staff functions in the resolution of process issues affecting internal and external customers. Continuously review existing processes for potential improvements.

 

 

PAY SCALE: $82,400 - $115,500

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
